Pretty town minutes from Manchester is 'like being in Spain'
manchestereveningnews.co.ukIt’s often described as a ‘small town with a village feel’, but on a balmy summer afternoon, Poynton’s main shopping street is something akin to an upscale Mediterranean esplanade.
That’s certainly what Paul, one of the town’s dedicated Council Support Community Officers seems to think, as he reels off a list of independent cafes, restaurants and bars that line the leafy Park Lane running through the town.
He says that come summer it's like being in Spain. Along with his colleague, they’re asked to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of Poynton, patrolling the pavements and dealing with issues such as graffiti, littering, dog fouling and the like, all whilst helping to reduce low-level crime and anti-social behaviour. Now people flock there But today, the pair, who have nothing but good things to say about the Cheshire town, would be welcomed with open arms by any tourism board seeking to attract visitors.
