Thousands of teenagers are collecting their grades today as GCSE results for 2024 are announced. After a stressful May and June students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will finally find out their grades so they can confirm what they will be doing for the next stage of their education.

In England, exams regulator Ofqual said it expected this year’s results to be “broadly similar” to last year, when grades were restored to pre-pandemic levels.

In Wales and Northern Ireland, exam regulators said they aimed to return to pre-pandemic grading this summer – a year later than in England. It has been a bit of a mixed bag with some excelling in their exams and others earning few or even no qualifications at all.
