Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About His Decision to Publicly Discuss His Sexuality

The 40-year-old football star went on his podcast a decade ago to clear up the rumors that he was gay. Now, he’s revealing why he felt he needed to clear them up. “I think I was upset with the framing [of the rumor] because it was meant to shame the idea of being gay, and I have so many friends that are gay in the community,” Aaron explained in an interview with author Ian O’Connor for the new biography, Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers.
He goes even further by claiming that his issue was with the negative stigma surrounding the rumors rather than the rumors themselves. “I’m like, say anything you want about me, but do you understand these people are using this to shame the idea of being gay?” Aaron said. “That’s just disrespectful to all my friends who are in the community who don’t believe that it’s a choice.
They were making it seem like you’re shaming people for being gay, when a lot of them, if you ask them, they didn’t ask for this life. ‘This is who I am.’” The New York Jets alum went on to say that he doesn’t blame Jason Wilde who was on the podcast at the time of Aaron dispelling the rumors.
