Police storm street after report of person with gun ... that turned out to be WALKING STICK

Police stormed streets in Cheetham Hill on Sunday night (August 20) following reports of a person armed with a gun that actually turned out to be a walking stick, the M.E.N understands.

Officers attended the scene on Bent Street and Elizabeth Street following reports that there had been concerns raised by a member of the public.

It is understood that the call to emergency services was made at around 9.30pm on Sunday and that it was reported there was a person with a firearm. However, after police arrived, the Manchester Evening News understands that a walking stick had actually been mistaken for the gun in question, that nobody was arrested and the case was subsequently closed.

A screenshot from a video taken on Sunday show a number of police vehicles in attendance. There were also reports of armed officers and police dogs also at the scene before the incident was cleared around two hours later.
