Police patrols in south Manchester and Trafford will be high profile for several days in a bid to diffuse gangland violence believed to be behind a stabbing and shooting.

The move comes after a 19-year-old man was stabbed in the back at the Love Factory venue in Manchester city centre on Saturday.

The Manchester Evening News understands the knifing is believed to be linked to a shooting in Trafford last month when a boy of 16 was shot a point blank range.

The two incidents are part of a series of tit-for-tat attacks between rival gangs. The knifing was at about 7.40pm on Saturday while the warehouse, in Danztic Street, was hosting an event.
