At the moment, many of us are trying to watch what we spend and try to be more mindful of money - meaning small savings here and there are welcome. And for those of us who drive petrol or diesel cars, we could be saving money by ditching one common car product that a mechanic has described as a "waste of money".YouTuber Scotty Kilmer, who has been a mechanic for over 50 years, said that most modern cars won't benefit from the product and that it should only be used on older models. The Express reports that he recently made a video about fuel additives and why they often aren't necessary to put in your car.

He made clear that additives should only be used on older cars, and modern cars likely won't benefit.Instead of this, he says that car owners should change their oil frequently and make sure their fuel tanks are topped up.

Speaking on his channel, Scotty said: "Is it worth posting a fuel injector additive to a car? It’s a new car. No, you're throwing your money down the toilet.“It’s to clean stuff.

It isn't dirty, it's a brand-new engine. Don’t throw your money away. Gasoline already comes with all kinds of cleaners now, now there’s good cleaners out there but you put it in a clunker that’s worn out and is clogged up.“But if you buy a new car and you buy correct gasoline and change the oil regularly you never really need to put an additive in it.
