Andrew Flintoff has been pictured for the first time since his horrific crash while shooting Top Gear. The former Lancashire all-rounder and England captain was hospitalised last December after the incident at an airfield in Surrey.

He has kept a low profile in the months since as he recovers from facial injuries and broken ribs he sustained while driving an open-top three-wheel Morgan Super 3 at 130mph.

The 45-year-old is now understood to have quit the BBC show and made a return to cricket. He was photographed at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens ground on Friday to watch England’s opening one-day international against New Zealand from the home team’s balcony.

Flintoff was wearing dark glasses and a hat on the outfield but had visible scars on his face and appeared to be wearing tape on his nose, the Mirror reports. Flintoff is a close friend of England managing director Rob Key and is set to be with the squad for the remainder of the series.
