Peter Chernin’s North Road Makes First Major International Acquisition With Turkish Film & TV Firm Karga Seven

EXCLUSIVE: Peter Chernin’s North Road Company has completed its first major international acquisition, Karga Seven Pictures, one of Turkey’s leading film and TV producers.

Istanbul and LA-based Karga Seven is best known for English-language period piece Rise of Empires: Ottoman and Turkish-language time travel drama Midnight at the Pera Palace, both of which were made for Netflix and reached number one in Turkey and charted on the streamer’s Global Top 10.

The company also produces hit Turkish dramas such as Hekimoglu, adapted from the U.S. series House. Financials were not disclosed.

Karga Seven received majority investment from Red Arrow back in 2015. North Road acquired Red Arrow’s U.S. assets last year in a deal pegged around $200M.

But for the time being, he remains the one man on earth willing to attempt the impossible without questioning the motives of those who require his services. That’s the deal with America’s most dutiful boy scout, Tom Cruise, who’s carried the billion-dollar “Mission: Impossible” franchise across 27 years without losing steam. Compare that with Indiana Jones, who’s failed to connect with a younger generation, or the Fast and Furious movies, which aren’t running out of gas so much as guzzling the laughing sort. “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” finds Cruise, now in his sixties, still running from one side of a very big, very wide screen to the other as if his life — and the lives of all 8 billion people on earth — depended on it.
