She’s appeared in iconic shows like Goodness Gracious Me, EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing but now Nina Wadia is turning her hand to children’s TV.

Nina, 54, narrates the brand-new series, Tweedy and Fluff, a heartwarming children’s show about two tiny animated characters. “When I first saw the show, I fell in love with it,” says Nina. “It’s about two characters, Tweedy is obviously made of tweed and some really soft stuffing and a bit of his stuffing is actually his dog Fluff.

And the two of them are very, very good friends. “It’s one of those shows that is on early in the morning for little kids. But parents can sit and watch with them too - it’s really cute. They’re short episodes that remind me of Morph and The Wombles.” The series consists of 40 episodes, each only five minutes long and follows an adventure of Tweedy and Fluff who live in a secret den in a human’s home. “Each episode is a learning experience too,” explains Nina. “I feel that I’ve learned a lot from my kids just by being a parent. They teach you lessons because you don’t know everything just because you’re grown up.

In a way it’s a very levelling thing when your child has taught you something about yourself. “It’s funny, my son’s 16, my daughter’s 19 now, and I do show them little clips of whatever work I’m doing, and actually, they absolutely love Tweedy and Fluff because of its warmth.” Nina says she feels connected to the show because of her own pet dog, Basil who she sees as her very own Fluff. “Basil, my cockapoo, is two years old now,” she says. “I’ve never had a pet before, and I got my first one at 53.
