Niall McGinn has revealed how a chance meeting with the late great Craig Brown led to him signing for Aberdeen.Brown - who sadly passed away last year at the age of 82 - managed the Dons between 2010 and 2013, steading the ship at Pittodrie after a challenging spell under previous boss Mark McGhee.

The Scottish managerial icon pulled off what later turned out to be a masterstroke by bringing Northern Ireland international McGinn to the Granite City on a free transfer in the summer of 2012.But McGinn - who has now returned to Scotland to join Greenock Morton on loan from Irish club Glentoran - recalls that it was only through some quick thinking from his agent that he even got the chance to meet former Scotland manager Brown.

Speaking to BBC Sport Scotland, the 37-year-old said: "Craig Brown was coming across to Ireland to watch another striker, and my agent being quite shrewd and smart, was on to me saying 'Craig Brown is coming over here to look at another player, I think you should come along and meet him'."Straight away I was like '100 per cent', so we went and picked Craig Brown up at the airport and met him.

We were speaking away and went to my agent's house and had cups of tea and coffee. As we were getting back into the car I said to Craig 'sit in the front, I'll sit in the back it's no problem' but he said 'no no you sit in the front and I'll sit in the back'."He was there in the back having his wee coke and crisps and we just chatted all the way to the game in Dundalk.
