Misinformation spread online about potential disorder is stoking the fears of local communites, say GMP. The practice has led to shops closing, residents staying in their homes, and hatred being fermented.
Today the force said it remained "dedicated to ensuring our local communities are safe and protected from further disruption".
The reassurance came as the region saw a quiet night after major disturbances in Manchester city centre and Bolton in recent days. This has been made worse by widespread sharing of misinformation online, which creates increased fear in communities and incites intolerable hate. "We want to reassure you that Greater Manchester Police remains dedicated to ensuring that our local communities are safe and protected from further disruption.
