The UK heatwave looks set to come to a dramatic end this week as heavy thunderstorms hit parts of the country. The Met Office has warned of torrential rain, lightning and some hail as a yellow weather warning covering much of England and Wales comes into force overnight.
Manchester could be hit by thunderstorms from the early hours of this morning following a period of pleasant weather and warm sunshine in recent days. READ MORE: Met Office warns 'be prepared' as weather takes dramatic turn over next 24 hours According to the latest Met Office forecast for the north west of the country, Wednesday evening will bring "dry and warm" weather with some "late sunny spells" before a change takes place overnight. "Showery rain developing overnight into the early hours of Thursday morning, heavy and perhaps thundery in places.
Feeling muggy and humid," the forecast states. Rain is expected to clear by Thursday morning with another day of sunny spells expected and highs of 25C.
However, temperatures are set to drop back down to the low 20s for the remainder of the week, signalling the end of the 'mini heatwave' the UK has been enjoying.
