An inspirational swimming coach who saved her club from folding has been handed an award for her efforts. Denton Artistic Swimming Club welcomed head coach Elizabeth Fitzgerald at a time when they were on the brink of folding all together.

She worked 'extremely hard' to restructure the club and won herself an award in the process. Fitzgerald received the North West Coach of the Year (Artistic Swimming) 2023 from Swim England, the sport's national body.

Her achievement now means she goes forward for the national award where she will be up against other regional winners. Join our WhatsApp Top Stories and Breaking News group by clicking this link. Her nomination included her work to make the club an inclusive place for everyone which caused club growth to rise by 30% in just 12 months.

Fitzgerald's enthusiastic efforts allowed the sport to become more accessible for those in hard to reach communities whilst also ensuring her team were fully trained to work with their numbers of neuro divergent swimmers during the club's inclusion sessions.
