Derek McInnes revealed a hamstring injury in the warm-up prevented him from throwing Kevin van Veen on against Aberdeen. With Kilmarnock 2-1 down in their Scottish Cup quarter-final at Pittodrie, the manager was keen to use the Dutch striker.
But he says he was only told during the game that Van Veen had suffered a strain pre-match, which stopped him from getting game time.
Killie produced a disappointing display against the Dons and could have no complaints with the outcome. In front of a big travelling support, they were deservedly beaten, despite Danny Armstrong’s goal before half-time that got them back in the tie.
McInnes tried everything from the bench to salvage it but couldn’t use his big January signing, Van Veen. Afterwards, he said: “Kevin got a hamstring injury in the warm-up which I only found about after an hour or so when I wanted to use him.
