Kilmarnock's bid for a first Scottish Cup semi-final in 27 years was brought to an end in disappointing fashion as they bowed out thanks to a 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.The two sides went into the clash on differing runs of form - but that went out of the window as a disjointed Killie were swept aside by the beleaguered hosts who put their league results to one side to book a date at Hampden.An early goal from Jamie McGrath - who tapped home a rebound from close range after Junior Hoilett's strike was parried by Will Dennis - was added to by a thundering strike from Graeme Shinnie as Neil Warnock's side built a two goal lead.Killie answered back before the break with a goal that their play had deserved when Kyle Vassell showed tricky feet out wide and teed up Danny Armstrong but the visitors never threatened a second and Aberdeen all but sealed a semi-final spot on 66 minutes as McGrath doubled his tally with the aid of a Stuart Findlay deflection as the visitors exited the cup.Kilmarnock were searching for their second win over the Dons in as many weeks, having got the better of Warnock's side at Rugby Park in a league clash a fortnight previously.

However, they didn't get off to the best of starts as they found themselves a goal down on 11 minutes.Following a scrappy opening period, the hosts got themselves in front when Stuart Findlay was caught out by a long ball over the top, allowing Bojan Mivoski to tee up Hoilett.

The Canadian's angled drive was parried by Will Dennis straight into the path of the onrushing McGrath who simply couldn't miss.The visitors struggled to create much despite enjoying plenty of possession in the opposition half with skipper Vassell's neat control and turn in the box resulting
