Man who raped Lanarkshire teenager months before her brother murdered her is jailed

A man who was responsible for the “appalling” rapes of a teenage murder victim and another woman has been jailed for 10 and a half years.

Jamie Starrs, 20, attacked 16-year-old Amber Gibson - also known as Amber Niven - at his home in Bothwell in June 2021. The High Court in Glasgow heard earlier this year how Amber was later murdered by her brother Connor, 20, months later at a park in Hamilton.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Police later learned of Starrs’ activities and he was brought to court. He was convicted at the High Court in Lanark last month on charges of two rapes, an attempt to pervert the course of justice and breaching bail - as he was interim liberation at the time of the sexual assaults.
