A man has been locked up after making a 'grossly offensive phone call' to Tameside MP Angela Rayner. Patrick Tolmie was arrested as part of a Greater Manchester Police investigation into malicious communications sent to Ms Rayner - codenamed Operation Octant.
Tolmie, 35, sent made the offensive phone call to the Ashton MP in January last year, police said. He pleaded guilty to sending malicious communications and was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Monday (February 19) to 11 months in prison.
Tolmie, of Fairfax Court, Middlesborough. was also ordered to pay £187 as a victim surcharge. Join our WhatsApp Top Stories and Breaking News group by clicking this link. A 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party was also granted.
Operation Octant is a joint probe between Greater Manchester Police, Surrey Police and Kent Police. A total of five people have been convicted in relation to the investigation so far.
