London City Airport is the first airport in the UK to scrap the 100ml limit on liquids passengers can take in their hand luggage.

The airport is removing the restriction in time for the Easter Holidays, The Metro reports. It comes after the government announced in December that it had set a deadline of June 2024 for UK airports to install new security technology, bringing an end to the 100ml limit on liquids in hand luggage.

In the future passengers will be able to bring containers carrying up to two litres of liquid in their hand luggage. The new security technology involves using computerised tomography (CT) scans to take a 3D image of the contents of the hand luggage.

It also means passengers will no longer have to remove laptops and take them through security separately, making the process smoother and more efficient for holidaymakers.
