A luxury hotel sacked chefs and waiting staff and closed its flagship fine dining restaurant after it failed to earn a Michelin star.
Management at Cameron House on Loch Lomond decided to shut the Tamburrini and Wishart restaurant just two years after it opened, making all 12 staff redundant. The top chefs whose names are on the venue – Paul Tamburrini and Martin Wishart – were told of the plans just half an hour before the kitchen and waiting staff.Hotel chiefs claimed the restaurant had been a failure as it didn’t get a prestigious Michelin star and had been losing money.
But sources said that achieving the culinary gong had never been a condition of employment when the venue opened in August 2021.Zack Brotherton, 32, who was the restaurant’s head chef, said: “I’ve worked for Paul and Martin for 10 years and never had an issue with them.
We were employed by Cameron House and the issue is with them."Restaurants do close down but it’s the way this was handled. The general manager told us it had been a financial decision and because we hadn’t got a Michelin star. "Martin and Paul had a meeting half an hour before we did and they were told then that it was closing.
