Luis Rubiales Resigns as President of Spanish Football Federation Amid Kissing Player Scandal

The 33-year-old player spoke out about the kiss, which happened during the presentation ceremony after Spain won over England in Sydney, saying it was not consensual in a legal complaint. He released a statement saying he submitted his resignation to the federation’s acting president, Pedro Rocha, as well as resigning from his position as Vice President of UEFA’s executive committee.
Spanish state prosecutors have accused Luis Rubiales of sexual assault and coercion for kissing the player on the lips without her consent, presenting a case against him to Spain’s National Court in Madrid.
