A live-action remake of the beloved animated movie How to Train Your Dragon is currently in the works and Universal Pictures has announced the young actors who will take on the lead roles of Hiccup and Astrid.
The franchise has been a huge hit for DreamWorks Animation, with the three films grossing more than $1.5 billion at the global box office combined. Keep reading to find out more… The Black Phone actor Mason Thames and The Last of Us actress Nico Parker have been cast as Hiccup and Astrid, respectively.
The roles were voiced by Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera in the animated franchise. THR notes that the animated films, based on the books by Cressida Cowell, followed the “special friendship between a young and unheroic Viking boy named Hiccup and Toothless, an injured dragon he nurses back to health.” The live-action remake will be released in theaters on March 14, 2025.
