Martinez fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during the Europa League quarter-final first-leg draw at home to Sevilla in April.
The Argentina star returned in pre-season and has featured regularly in recent weeks but suffered a recurrence in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal before the international break.
Having fought through the pain against Brighton and Bayern Munich, Martinez has missed all of United's matches since and Erik ten Hag confirmed earlier this week that the defender would require further surgery.
