Lanarkshire MSP hits out at Scottish Government over college funding cuts

A Lanarkshire MSP says she is “astonished” by the crisis facing services on college campuses that young people and families rely on.Scottish Conservative MSP for Central Scotland Meghan Gallacher’s comments come after the announcement that the halls of residence at the Motherwell campus of New College Lanarkshire, will be closed while nurseries at the Coatbridge and Cumbernauld campuses will also be shut in December with the loss of 30 staff.Speaking in a debate in the Scottish Parliament on college regionalisation, Meghan said the closure was the latest real-life consequence of the Scottish Government’s decision to cut college funding, despite the warnings from academics and unions.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
