Former Hibs manager Shaun Maloney has failed with a bid to plunder Easter Road for Kevin Nisbet. The newly-installed Wigan boss wanted his former hitman to lead the Latics’ bid for survival, with the Championship side rock bottom of England’s second tier.
But Hibs chiefs booted the seven-figure bid into touch and Record Sport understands only a massive offer would now see them consider offloading their star man in the final 24 hours of the window.
Nisbet looked certain to leave Hibs last week after the Leith club accepted a bid worth almost £2.5m from Millwall. But after travelling to London to be shown round the Lions’ facilities, the 25-year-old had a change of heart and returned to Edinburgh on Friday.
Just 24 hours later Nisbet came off the bench to net his eighth goal in as many games since returning from an ACL injury as Lee Johnson’s side battered Aberdeen 6-0.Wigan are said to be mulling over an improved bid for the Scotland international who has 18 months left on his deal in Leith.
