Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Joint annual golden wedding anniversary celebrations in Lanarkshire brought to an end

The plug is being pulled on joint civic celebrations for couples living in Lanarkshire celebrating their golden wedding anniversaries.Councillors in North Lanarkshire sitting on the local authority’s Policy & Strategy Committee agreed at a meeting last week that the annual celebration held by the local authority would not continue.Up until now the event has been held jointly with South Lanarkshire Council, who will now "consider the implications" for the future of their golden wedding celebration events.In previous years all couples celebrating 50 years of married life together were invited to an event paid for jointly by both councils.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
