Independents claim victory in North Middleton by-election

The Middleton Independent Party clinched victory in the North Middleton by-election. The newly elected Coun Keeley O’Mara took 52 per cent of the vote, taking the number of MIP council members back to two.

The MIP said it was ‘thrilled’ to take the seat vacated by independent Peter Allonby. The battle was realistically only going to be between two parties - Labour and the MIP.

now it hangs in the balance Labour’s Donna Martin was the runner up with 572 votes (36 per cent), followed by Conservative Sajid Majid with 108 votes; and Iain Donaldson of the Lib Dems with 80 votes.
