Morgan Berry held her breath as she sat in the hospital waiting room. Nurses flicked through their medical notes, families chatted softly nearby.

It was a late Friday evening and the ward was relatively busy. But time had stood still for Morgan, who was less than 20 minutes away from finding out what was really wrong with her little girl.

Several medics were waiting for her by the time she was calling into a private room. “I’m just going to say one word,” a consultant said. “Leukaemia.” Morgan's daughter, Lillianna Loasby, had baffled doctors before eventually being diagnosed on her third birthday on January 27.

Morgan first realised something was wrong a week earlier when she noticed the tot had rapid breathing.
