The death of Friends star Matthew Perry brought back painful 'memories' of his own ketamine addiction for famous chef Alasdair Gill.
The son of the late British journalist AA Gill has opened up about his addiction to taking 'unholy amounts of ketamine' in an article in the Times.
It was recently revealed that Hollywood icon Perry, who died aged 54 last October, died due to a ketamine overdose. Gill's descent into drug taking began as a teenager after he saw it as a cheaper alternative to the more popular drug cocaine, saying: "When I was a young teenager, unsurprisingly, no one could really afford fancy narcotics.
But ketamine was always readily available on the west London streets I hung out on: at £10 for a gram of shardy crystals, it was about a tenth of the price of coke, with effects on offer that were far more bang for your money." The drug, which can be taken legally under medical guidance, is defined by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation as "a dissociative drug, which means it causes people to feel separated or detached from their body or physical environment.
