One of the doctors charged in connection with the death of Friends star Matthew Perry is set to plead guilty to his role in supplying the actor with drugs after brokering a plea deal with prosecutors.

Dr Mark Chavez, 54, was on Friday due to appear before a Los Angeles federal court. Chavez is one of the five people announced earlier this month to have been charged in connection with the death of the actor.

Matthew was found dead at his home in California in October 2023. He died as a result of “the acute effects of ketamine”, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office has since said.

Government lawyers have alleged that Matthew's assistant and a friend collaborated with two doctors and a drug dealer to procure thousands of pounds worth of ketamine for the star. The actor had been seeking treatment for depression and anxiety when he became addicted to intravenous ketamine.
