Police have launched an investigation after human bones were discovered by a workman during construction works at Irvine's Old Parish Church on Tuesday, May 2.The historic remains were hidden below a cupboard where the lead supply tank is placed.Police forensic teams were working at the site since 3pm yesterday after being alerted about the discovery.Remains of a skull and other bones could be seen inside the wall.
The age of the remains has yet to be ascertained. However, it was confirmed that the remains were not of anyone recently deceased.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers attended Irvine Parish Church around 3pm on Wednesday, May 3, following the discovery of human bones during construction work at the site.
