A minke whale has been found dead near a Scots beauty spot. The adult female, which is around 9.5m in length, was discovered on North Berwick harbour in East Lothian on Wednesday, April 19.
The creature's cause of death is unknown.East Lothian Council has warned members of the public not to go near the carcass and keep dogs at a safe distance.
A council spokesperson said: "Unfortunately a dead minke whale has washed up at North Berwick. We are currently arranging for its removal but the public are advised to keep a suitable distance from the whale and not to allow dogs to go near the carcass."Common minkes are the smallest of the baleen whale and can reach up to 27ft in length.
The animals can be spotted on Scottish coastal and in-shore waters.The Record approached the Scottish Seabird Centre and SMAS for comment.
