A heavily pregnant woman is understood to have been stabbed near a school in Aberfan - and a knifeman is on the run.Armed police were called to the quiet village in South Wales on Tuesday morning after the 29-year-old victim was found in a pool of blood on the pavement.

Neighbours ran into the street with pillows and blankets for the woman before emergency services arrived. She has been taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment.

A number of schools in the area have been locked down as a precaution and police are urging people to stay away as the attacker remains on the loose.

A police helicopter is reportedly circling overhead in the hunt for the suspect. Locals said the woman, believed to be "heavily pregnant", had moved to the village recently after being involved in a domestic abuse case in England.
