Scott Martin admits Hamilton Accies didn’t hit the benchmarks they’ve set for themselves as they beat Brechin City 1-0 on Tuesday.Kevin O’Hara’s 21st-minute penalty earned Accies six points from their opening two Viaplay Cup games, adding to Saturday’s 3-1 win over Clyde, but club captain Martin says they struggled to get past their Highland League opponents in the second half.O’Hara netted when Dylan Tait’s delightful pass sent him clear in the box only to be upended by defender Hamish Thomson, and he dusted himself down before smashing in the spot-kick for his first Hamilton goal.Accies had chances other than that to score, through O’Hara, Connor Murray and Jackson Longridge. But Brechin’s Fraser Macleod forced a good save from Jamie Smith in 14 minutes, and Marc Scott’s dipping header struck the top of the bar late on.Martin said: “We were pleased with the first half, but it kind of dropped off a little bit in the second and we saw the game out."There are standards now at the club where the boys aren’t down but disappointed with how we finished the game.“We’ve set benchmarks and we want to meet them.“We could have scored more goals than we did in the first half, and we need to be a little bit more ruthless.“That’s not just top-of-the-pitch players, it’s everybody in the team.“Everybody’s getting chances right now.
