Greater Manchester weather alert as police issue 'fatal' warning

Police have issued a warning on open water swimming on what could be Greater Manchester's hottest day of the year so far. Temperatures are set to soar to 24C in some parts of our region today with wall-to-wall sunshine expected all day.

Amid the hot weather, beauty spots, parks and reservoirs across all of our boroughs are expected to get extremely busy with sunseekers.

In a post on social media this morning, Greater Manchester Police warned people not to jump into open water just because it is warm.

Officers also gave advice on what to do if anyone came into difficulty.
