Met Office yellow weather warning issued for Greater Manchester

The Met Office has slapped Greater Manchester with a yellow weather warning ahead of a bumper Sunday for the city. Tomorrow (May 26) will see the Great Manchester Run return, with thousands set to pound the streets.

And in the evening, Manchester City's title winners will celebrate their Premier League success with a bus parade. But while Mancunians will be in buoyant mood, the weather could try to dampen a few spirits.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office for Sunday. It covers the whole of Greater Manchester and most of the North West, Yorkshire and the Midlands. According to the Met Office, 'slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in places'. It is warning people to prepare for travel disruption, for both public transport and tricky conditions on the roads, as well as possible flood damage and potential power cuts.
