At least six people have died in the Caribbean as Hurricane Beryl ripped through open waters as it made its way towards Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
The Category 5 storm is expected to hit Jamaica on today (July 3), having already made landfall in the southeast Caribbean. It’s then expected to pass near the Cayman Islands on Tuesday and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Friday, according to the National Hurricane Centre.
A hurricane warning was in effect for Jamaica and a hurricane watch for Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. UK travellers have been urged to check local weather updates from the US National Hurricane Center and follow the advice of local authorities, including evacuation orders.
Brits should also check the Foreign Office guidance for extreme weather and natural hazards.
