Thunderstorms and flash flooding alert as Met Office issues yellow weather warning

Greater Manchester and the rest of the country could be hit by severe thunderstorms on Thursday with heavy rainfall potentially causing flooding and problems on the roads, according to Met Office forecasters.

They issued a 'yellow' thunderstorm warning covering most of England and Wales from midnight on Wednesday. The expected deluge is set to bring to an end days of glorious sunshine.

Issuing the 'yellow' weather warning for Thursday, the Met Office said on its website: "Whilst there is some uncertainty, thunderstorms may affect southeast England during the early hours of Thursday, perhaps also extending into parts of East Anglia.
