A crew member was arrested at Edinburgh Airport prior to the takeoff of a Delta Airlines flight. The US airline confirmed that a 61-year-old male worker on the New York bound flight was detained this morning by police.

Following the arrest, the flight was cancelled and customers are being accommodated by the company, Edinburgh Live reports. An investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident has been launched by authorities and Delta Airlines are assisting with enquiries.A spokesperson for Delta Airlines said: “Delta confirms that one of its crew was taken into custody this morning at EDI Airport.

Delta is assisting the authorities with their ongoing enquiries."They added: "Delta’s EDI-JFK flight (June 16) has been cancelled and customers are being re-accommodated.

We apologise to customers impacted by this cancellation.”A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10am on Friday, 16 June, a 61-year-old man was arrested at Edinburgh airport in connection with the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003.
