TV presenter Jules Hudson helps house hunters find beautiful countryside homes within their budgets on BBC’s Escape to the Country, but even though he has an eye for a bargain, Jules has admitted that even he can be taken in by a scammer.

In an interview with This Is Money, Jules recounted his biggest money mistake. “I once bought a quad bike for £1,600 on eBay, thinking it was too good to be true – and it was,” he said. “I was ripped off by a scammer in Spain.

I transferred the money directly into his account and learnt a hard lesson. That bike never existed.” Jules, who also presents Springtime on the Farm and Countryfile, may be a familiar face on television but he keeps his private life away from the limelight, living quietly in Herefordshire with his wife Tania Fitzgerald and their son Jack, and two Labradors Teddy and Lolo.

Speaking to The Express, he described his life in the country. "My perfect day is a nice, warm, sunny Sunday with myself, my wife, my son and our dogs all out gardening having a really lazy day.” Sign up to OK's TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free He added: "I love it when there is no one to ring, no one to bother with and we are just immersed in the practicalities of being outdoors, getting mucky and transforming the garden." When he isn’t at home with his family, Jules is often busy presenting Escape to the Country in different picturesque locations around the country, a job he clearly loves. "I hope to do Escape to the Country for as long as I'm able and for as long as the show will have me,” he told The Express. “For me, country life is absolutely who I am and it's who I was before I came to present Escape to the Country.
