'Enchanting' Halloween lakeside light trail opens just outside Manchester

A new lakeside light trail has opened near Manchester celebrating all things Halloween. It's the first event of its kind at Warrington’s Partridge Lakes Fishery and has transformed the 70-acre site with light displays, spooky installations and more.

The woodland walk takes you around one of the lakes as you encounter various moving decorations and eerie lights. It was a very wet evening as we embarked on the Halloween Lakeside Light Trail on Monday night, marking the official opening at the Culcheth site, but the rain added to the mysterious atmosphere. Read more: Christmas light trail coming to Heaton Park from the makers of Dunham Massey's festive event While younger ones might be a little freaked out by some of the displays - the children on a see-saw and swings were pretty creepy - it's not too scary or loud, so the tone is right for the 'all ages' audience it's aimed at.

Dogs can go too, but I'm relieved we didn't take ours as he wouldn't have coped as well with the Jack In The Box and pumpkin figures we encountered along the way.

If children are feeling a little anxious after the trail, there's a real life Cinderella greeting them at the end of it. Surrounded by pumpkins and with a glowing glass slipper, she's there to offer a friendly wave to bid families farewell.
