A man has been arrested after windows were smashed at a Co-op in Manchester city centre. Local residents near Angel Square reported hearing 'loud bangs' and seeing a number of police officers at around 6.30am this morning (Monday).
Police said officers were called to reports of 'criminal damage of a building'. Pictures taken at the scene this morning showed the Co-op store on Angel Street, which is close to the Co-op HQ, left with damaged windows on the shop front.
A man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said. The shop appeared to be open as normal to customers this morning. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At approximately 6:30am this morning (9 October 2023), officers were called to reports of criminal damage of a building in Angel Square, Manchester where a number of windows were reported to have been smashed. "A male has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.
