Police launch investigation after iconic Manchester building covered in red paint
manchestereveningnews.co.ukVandals have attacked one of Manchester's most iconic landmarks. Red paint has been splashed over the front of the Grade II listed Express Building on Great Ancoats Street.
Greater Manchester Police said they were alerted to the damage at 7.40am today and are investigating. Police said their investigation was "at an early stage" and as yet there is no indication as to who was behind the vandalism and why.
Formerly the home of the Daily Express newspaper, the building was a key part of "the other Fleet Street' which once existed in the city.
It opened in 1939 and its curves, black glass, and streamlined Art-Deco styling caused a stir. It was designed by engineer, Sir Own Williams and similar versions were constructed for the paper in London and Glasgow.
