Emmerdale viewers have requested a returning character make a 'permanent' comeback as they made a surprise appearance during the latest trip to the Dales.

Viewers tuned in to the ITV soap on Thursday night (November 2) to discover who had really killed Craig Reed. A 'whodunnit' was sparked after Lydia Dingles rapist was found dead in the fields surrounding Home Farm after being beaten up.

At the start of the week, a new day dawned on the fictional Yorkshire village and knowing Craig had been found dead by Billy Fletcher, viewers saw Lydia stage a lock-in at the Woolpack as she tried to get to the bottom of her former childhood acquaintance and attacker.

But while she suspected her family, in the end it wasn't those she should have looking to. Fans saw at the end of Wednesday's episode, Sam wanted to confess to something and so the gamekeeper was then heard admitting that it was he who killed Craig after he beat him up after holding him hostage in an abandoned barn with the help of his brother Cain.
