Emergency services assist Angus residents to evacuate town

Residents are being evacuated from a Scots town affected by Storm Babet.Fire crews and coastguard teams have begun the evacuation process on River Street in Brechin, Angus this evening.

Two fire engines and multiple coastguard vehicles have been spotted at the scene as crews from both services knock on residents’ doors advising them to leave the area.Some people can be seen leaving the area.

It comes as Angus Council issued a 'risk to life' warning for people living in the town. The local authority urged locals to leave their homes if asked to evacuate.

A statement reads: "Risk to life - if told to evacuate, please leave. The latest modelling from SEPA is that river levels could reach an unprecedented 5m about normal levels."The Brechin flood defences are designed to deal with river levels of 3.8m.
