Eddie Howe says Newcastle striker Callum Wilson came through his 30-minute return from injury against Liverpool “fine” but was vaguer about Joelinton’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.

Wilson returned from a hamstring setback for the second half of the Magpies’ 2-0 loss while Joelinton was unhappily substituted off despite having to be treated for an apparent hamstring issue himself during the contest.

The Brazilian indicated he wanted to play on but Howe was soon seen saying to his attacker that he was being brought off for his own good.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle after full-time, Howe said he was awaiting the result of Joelinton's injury scare ahead of Sunday. READ MORE: Glazers keeping players and staff away from takeover process He said: "We hope he's OK.
