East Kilbride Thistle and Cambuslang Rangers to play memorial match for late ex-boss Alan Paterson
dailyrecord.co.ukEast Kilbride Thistle will play Cambuslang Rangers in the Alan Paterson Memorial Match next month.Paterson, who died suddenly at the age of just 44 in September 2022, was a player and manager for the Jags and also managed Cambuslang for a short spell.Now the two clubs have come together to organise what they hope will be an annual match to remember the much-loved former postal worker.Thistle will play the Wee Gers as part of their pre-season preparations on Wednesday, July 17, at the Showpark, kick-off 7.30pm.
Jags boss Aaron Connolly said: “We have been keen to get this sorted for a while. We put an invite out to Cambuslang a couple of weeks ago and we are delighted they have accepted it.“Alan was a hugely important person in the town and massively contributed to East Kilbride Thistle over the years, both as a player and a manager.
He also had a contribution to Cambuslang Rangers so we are delighted we can do something in his memory and hopefully it is something we can continue, year on year, to remember Patsy and what he did for both clubs.”Camby gaffer Paul McColl said: “EK asked us if we wanted to play the game and we were delighted to take part.
If it helps people remember Alan and raise money for a charity that Alan’s family chooses, then that’s great.
