New rules regarding Universal Credit have been announced which will impact thousands of parents. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has released updated guidance setting out the details of what it expects from people in return for their Universal Credit payments.And thousands of claimants with children have been told they must find full-time work or face benefit cuts, Birmingham Live reports.
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride, said: "We are pulling down barriers that stop parents working and fulfilling their potential because we know full-time work not only benefits mum and dad but the whole family too. "These changes will support thousands on their back-to-work journey." Mr Stride also said that households are at least £6,000 a year better off in full-time work than if they are unemployed and living on benefits.

Earlier this year the Government boosted the available support by almost 50% with upfront and increased costs of up to £951 a month for one child and £1,630 for two or more children.The DWP has announced that eligible parents who increase their working hours can get up to 85% of their childcare costs back before their next month's bills are due.
