Voters in Rutherglen & Hamilton West will be going to the polls on October 5 after a date was confirmed for Scotland’s first recall by-election.Constituents will choose a new MP to replace the deposed Margaret Ferrier, whose ousting from office through a public petition following her 2020 Covid rule breaches was confirmed by the House of Commons speaker as parliament returned from its summer recess on Monday.The long-anticipated date was confirmed for the first time yesterday by returning officer Cleland Sneddon, the chief executive of South Lanarkshire Council – who also highlighted that next month’s poll will be the first in the country to require photo ID.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
