An SNP by-election candidate has said she did not read a blog which criticised the exam results of her Labour rival’s school and was shared by her MSP boss.Katy Loudon is trying to hold the Rutherglen and Hamilton West seat for the SNP after Margaret Ferrier was booted out of the Commons for breaking covid rules.Her Labour opponent, Michael Shanks, is a teacher but a pro-independence blog questioned the exam results of the school department at which he taught.It stated: “Some of you won’t like this and I’m ready for some indignant flak but the Rutherglen & Hamilton West by-election is already pretty dirty.”The blog labelled the results “disappointing in terms of temporal decline and comparative weakness”, adding:“I’m not sure how the Labour candidate can be presented as the kind of ambitious, energetic and demanding person, the folk of Rutherglen and Hamilton West deserve as their MP.”The article was shared by senior SNP MSP Clare Haughey, who according to Loudon's register of interest employs the candidate as a caseworker.Haughey deleted the tweet and apologised.Asked about the blog by the Record, Loudon said: “I am a teacher and I know how hard our teachers work and continue to work.

We've had yet another set of fantastic results for our young people here in South Lanarkshire.“I didn't read the blog post which you're referring to so I couldn't comment on that directly.
