Creetown gaffer Jamie Adams reckons his side haven’t received the credit they deserve for their achievements. The Castle Cary Park side go into Saturday’s meeting with Dalbeattie Star just a point behind the Islecroft side and eight behind Utility Hut South of Scotland League leaders Newton Stewart, who have played five games more.

And last season Creetown were desperately close to lifting the title as well as winning the South of Scotland League Cup. Adams said: “Over the past 18 or 20 months I don’t think my boys have got the credit they deserve from anybody within the league – maybe some people. “I think they’ve been outstanding, they’ve only lost one game in I don’t know how many. “The first thing I wanted was the boys to competitive in every game and, apart from in one league game, they’ve done that I couldn’t ask for any more on that side. “Dalbeattie are a really good team with a really good manager so we know we need to be at our best to get anything out of the game. “It’ll not decide what happens, there’s a lot of football to be played but you get games in seasons that are bigger than others and this is one of them. “We played Lochar at the start of the season and won, we went to Newton Stewart and won, we played Abbey Vale at home, were 2-0 down and won, so we’ll be doing everything to get a positive result. “We know how difficult it’ll be and we need to be at the top of our game to get anything out of it.” Creetown go into the game on the back of a 5-3 win at Nithsdale Wanderers in the Haig Gordon Cup.

Creetown triumphed in the Haig Gordon Cup in an eight goal thriller at Nithsdale Wanderers. Goals from Harry Mitchell and Josh Rennie gave them a two goal advantage before the hosts got one back
